Types of braces
At Caswell Orthodontics, our commitment to our patients is to provide you with the right treatment for your orthodontic needs, and your needs only. We offer a range of different braces to straighten your teeth but you can be sure the one we recommend is the right one for you.
Traditional metal braces
Metal braces are the most common type of braces and what most people think of when they hear the word brace. Traditional metal braces are made of high-grade stainless steel and include three key components: brackets, archwires and ties. The brackets are fitted to the front surface of your teeth and are connected via thin metal archwires. Ties then wrap around the brackets and apply gentle pressure to your teeth to straighten them. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive to wear, and for our younger patients, they can be made even more fun with different coloured ties that can be changed at each visit.
Clarity braces offer patients an effective combination of ceramic brackets with metal archwires, resulting in an orthodontic appliance that is most sturdy and attractive. In fact, Clarity braces are so sturdy that many doctors will recommend them to their patients who play sports. Patients are allowed to engage in most everyday activities without fear of delaying or impeding their progress.
Clarity braces work in the same was as traditional metal braces do; it’s just their appearance that is slightly different. The brackets are made from a semi-transparent ceramic material that blends in with the color of your teeth. The ceramic also won’t stain so you can proceed with orthodontic treatment without having to feel self-conscious. In addition, Clarity braces’ smooth, rounded shape allows for greater patient comfort.
These features are designed for patients regardless of age, so both teens and adults can enjoy the benefits and results of Clarity braces.
Invisalign is the orthodontic system that doesn’t use braces to straighten teeth, though some people do refer to Invisalign aligners as invisible braces. Instead of braces, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners that look like thin sports mouthguards to move teeth into position. These aligners are custom-made for comfort and can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. You can find out more about these aligners on our Invisalign page.
At Caswell Orthodontics, to get the very best from our range of orthodontic appliances, we use the latest orthodontic technology. This includes the iTero IntraOral Digital Scanner, which is one of the newest and best forms of technology available for orthodontic care and the optional accelerated treatment devices and procedures to straighten teeth even faster.
The iTero scanner takes highly detailed scans of a patient’s entire mouth which saves time and ensures a greater accuracy in treatment. It means Dr. Caswell can ensure precision, efficiency and comfort during orthodontic treatment.
With the use of this cutting-edge iTero scanner goopy impressions are no longer required for Invisalign (or other orthodontic appliances). This means no more mess, gagging or discomfort! The scanner can also help to shorten the length of patient treatments by increasing the accuracy of Invisalign trays and orthodontic appliances.
